Zentangle life

Meet this week's ZIA made with the new tangle FIFE.
Check out Lauras site "Iamthediva" to read more on how Zentangle has touched peoples lives!!
For me it taught me how to breathe, every stroke helped me to get calmer and more focused.
Every time I am in a state of turmoil, anger, lost, impatient - all the depressing adjectives I start tangling and out goes all the negativity.
And "Thank You" Laura for the lovely challenges, it keeps the mojo flowing!!

Red thread

"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but it will never break." -Chinese proverb

This week's ZIA is to create a tile  a traditional black and white tangle tile with a single red "thread" running through it.

Why a red thread??

The Red Thread Promise is an organisation that helps children, both here and abroad, by providing medical treatments and other essentials that we often take for granted.

... this is what my heart drew...

...a sparkly red thread which connects the world and well Cris is collecting tangled tiles which will be sold or auction to help raise money to support this lovely mission. So lovely ladies when you are done tangling- write your name on the back along with your location, city, state, country, whatever you are comfortable sharing.  Send your tile to

Cris Letourneau
6285 Blacklick-Eastern Rd.
Pickerington, OH 43147

or scan your tile and add it to the  I Promise to Help Flicker group

Good Luck Cris and Thanks Laura!!

Tri-Trio

Meet this weeks ZIA at "Iamthediva"- another String theory.
So many possibilities

The challenge comes from Sue Clark and the big idea is to use the "Three basic shapes" to create a string and use tangles you have never used before.

Tangles used are Pendrills, Pepper, Nipa, Sanibelle, Queens crown, Postl, Nzeppel and Bridgen.
Nzeppel was one tangle that I would always shy away from as I found it very complex, so Thanx Laura and Sue you guys pushed me out of my comfort zone and IT WAS FUN

Remembrance

Remember when..how often we go down this road, be with our spouse, our children, family, pets, friends...remembering sweet nothing and mussing over it, memories that bring a smile on our face and a tear in our eyes,
This week's ZIA at "Iamthediva" is "Lest we Forget", and this is my remembrance...

...stories untold, memories blurred with time, but knowing that they were filled with love and care, friends come and gone and having that faith that we will meet again...

iThink iDifferent

“No one wants to die.
Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there.
And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it.
And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life.
It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.
Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.
Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking.
Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice.
And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Opus&Jonqal

Between cleaning, sorting, and organizing (which is an ongoing process) I tangled this weeks duotangle  Opus and Jonqal hosted at "Iamthediva".
I have rarely used Opus in my tangles so it was fun learning it and I found the combination very interesting as Jonqal is very perspective and grid kind while opus is all curvy and floral.
Here's the end result

Peace...

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one ....John Lennon

"Iamthediva" is hosting a challenge "Pinwheel for Peace" on the occasion of International Day of Peace which is on the 21st Sept 2011. "Pinwheels for Peace originally started as an art installation organized by two high school teachers in Florida.  They used the project as a way to teach kids how to express their feelings about the world and what's going on in it.  Since then, it's grown from 500,000 pinwheels the first year to 3.5 million last year!!"

So for this challenge instead of a tile I made a -

...round and round...

...the wheels of the bus goes round and.... the song kept buzzing in my head as I kept turning the tile  around for this "Pair of ducks"
The 38th weekly challenge at "IamtheDiva" is to make a tile using only one tangle and the tangle is "Paradox" one of my favourite tangle.
I just can't get enough of this tangle. I love the complexity of this tile visually and the simplicity of it in making.
The key to this tangle is to keep turning your tile round and round till you get beautiful "Pair of Ducks"(according to Laura) :D and how many tiles did I make?
Not one or two but SIX tiles!!

The first two are before and after shading of the same tile and the rest are just quack quack...

Tuesday seems like Thursday

The way the weather is, it feels its end of the week- when the week has actualy just began. Anyway to get the blues going I decided to tangle and realized Oh I have to yet complete the weekly challenge from Laura which is Kiss my Grid. WHAT!!(keep reading)
As laura says"It brings back fond memories of that sitcom from the 70s about the Diner... what was that called? there was Mel the cook, and i think Alice... and that red-head Flo who's signature line was, "Mel, Kiss my grits."

The big idea here is to draw a string and then use Grid based tangles
Another interesting challenge from Laura, with a little help from B-rad :D got me using tangles which I have never experimented with before.

Thanks Laura!! (n B_rad)

CCC :)

Circle Card Challenge!!
Sketch card challenge at Moxifab and combining with ICR ICRC9 challenge (no rubber-digi stamping except for sentiment) whewww.

I made a bright sunny card for Teachers day.
For the apple did a patchwork of felt and hand wrote the sentiment. Distress the background using Tim Holtz Red Barn, Yellow Mustard and Forrest Moss.
The background was cut using the Nestabilities classic scalloped circles. Paper is from DCWV "The Grade School Stack, Anita's Essential. The sentiment is on a leafy green vellum from local store on which I have stroked with dark green pencil color. X'mas Red, Yellow and Green stickles glitter glue.
The only trouble I had (which took away a better part of the day) was trying to fit in the sentiment on the leaf. But the end result was worth it.

Ganuraya

A dear friend Tejal who practices everything that she preaches :) - her family celebrates the Ganesha festival in a wonderful, inspiring way...

"Check attached pics. of Ganuraya at our home on Ganesha Chaturthi day. It is a symbolic Ganesha similar to pyramid, made out of pieces of sugarcane. In fact the next day the sugarcane becomes prasad and the remains go for the plants :)

As told to me by elders, this has been a traditional way followed since their childhood. It was very unusual, when I first saw it, being in graphic design, different forms, ideas, symbolic representation interests me. This one being of my favourite God form really thrilled me. Its fun to place sugarcane pieces one above the other and build the symbolic form for Ganesha. Believe me it turns out to be different every year. My elders love doing puja and rituals but over all it is a very simple affair and most importantly eco-friendly :)

Last year instead of elaborate flower malas we offered a leaf, a flower, a seed, grain, fruit whatever available from each plant growing at home while thanking for variety of every kind around us (cannot locate the pic. now but will share whenever I get it).

Seems interesting? well instead of buying an idol, give this a try this year. Join the fun !

Would like to hear your ways.. lets share different ways of Ganesh celebrations which are simple, enjoyable, eco-friendly & soulful too.

have fun with Ganuraya !

:D Tejal"

What a wonderful way - Thanks Tejal for sharing this and if any one wishes to add to this PLEASE PLEASE do...till then "Ganpati Baba Morya"
