Ganuraya

A dear friend Tejal who practices everything that she preaches :) - her family celebrates the Ganesha festival in a wonderful, inspiring way...

"Check attached pics. of Ganuraya at our home on Ganesha Chaturthi day. It is a symbolic Ganesha similar to pyramid, made out of pieces of sugarcane. In fact the next day the sugarcane becomes prasad and the remains go for the plants :)

As told to me by elders, this has been a traditional way followed since their childhood. It was very unusual, when I first saw it, being in graphic design, different forms, ideas, symbolic representation interests me. This one being of my favourite God form really thrilled me. Its fun to place sugarcane pieces one above the other and build the symbolic form for Ganesha. Believe me it turns out to be different every year. My elders love doing puja and rituals but over all it is a very simple affair and most importantly eco-friendly :)

Last year instead of elaborate flower malas we offered a leaf, a flower, a seed, grain, fruit whatever available from each plant growing at home while thanking for variety of every kind around us (cannot locate the pic. now but will share whenever I get it).

Seems interesting? well instead of buying an idol, give this a try this year. Join the fun !

Would like to hear your ways.. lets share different ways of Ganesh celebrations which are simple, enjoyable, eco-friendly & soulful too.

have fun with Ganuraya !

:D Tejal"

What a wonderful way - Thanks Tejal for sharing this and if any one wishes to add to this PLEASE PLEASE do...till then "Ganpati Baba Morya"
